The cuisine at Buckeye Tavern is a deliciously diverse celebration of American comfort food with a creative twist. Their menu is rich and varied, making it a perfect destination for family dinners, friendly gatherings, or even a solo indulgence. Start your meal with a tempting Appetizer Platter or sample flavorful bites like the Thai Chili Cauliflower Bites or the irresistible Scallops Wrapped in Bacon. The beer selection pairs wonderfully with these starters, enhancing their bold, savory flavors.
If you’re craving a burger, Buckeye delivers with their hand-pressed Buckeye Burger—a juicy 8oz patty nestled in a buttery brioche bun, topped with fresh lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and your choice of cheese. For a heartier option, the Big Big Buck doubles down on this delicious classic. Unique creations like The New Tripoli combine sautéed mushrooms, sharp cheddar cheese, and horseradish aioli for a truly elevated burger experience. The Crispy Fries accompanying many dishes are frequently mentioned for their texture and flavor, a perfect crispy counterpoint to the tender mains.
Steak lovers will find their paradise here. The Prime Time Filet, an 8oz USDA Prime choice filet, expertly grilled and served with an herb compound butter or bacon cream sauce, stands out as a pinnacle of rich, buttery indulgence. The Buckeye Black Diamond Steak, marinated skirt steak bursting with a teriyaki and herb glaze, never fails to impress, delivering a deep umami punch with every bite. Other notable entrees like the Beef Fajitas and Braised Short Rib offer complex layers of flavor and melting tenderness that evoke a real passion for quality meat dishes.
For something a little different, the Cheesesteak Empanadas and the JP’s Pulled Pork Sandwich showcase inventive takes on familiar favorites, offering a perfect balance between boldness and comfort. And don’t skip dessert—decadent treats like Oreo Cheesecake and Funnel Cake Fries provide a sweet finish that complements the savory feast.
Customers consistently praise not only the food but the inviting atmosphere and attentive service. Whether it’s a quick stop before a trip, as Patti Stang fondly recalls, or a return after years away (like James Evans appreciated), Buckeye Tavern manages to retain a welcoming charm. The combination of a lively bar scene, complete with a fascinating display of sports memorabilia, and family-friendly offerings makes this eatery stand out as a destination where every visit feels special.
While most guests rave about the flavorful dishes and friendly vibes—especially the perfectly cooked steaks and crispy fries—Buckeye Tavern also listens to feedback, as some have noted that a few dishes (like the risotto) could be toned down in seasoning. This openness adds to the sense that this is a place dedicated to genuine hospitality and growth.
For an authentic taste of Macungie in a setting that blends rustic charm with culinary excellence, Buckeye Tavern is a true gem. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty burger, an expertly grilled steak, or inventive appetizers shared over cold beer, you’ll leave feeling delighted, well cared for, and eager to return.
Our app sampler was delicious. The salads were perfect. My son got an order of chicken fingers which were on the finger foods of the menu so we had to order a side of fries separate because it didn’t come with fries. He got ALOT of fries. My husbands steak was cooked perfectly and though my risotto looked amazing it was hard to eat because it was so incredibly salty. I thought it was just me but when I got it home and tried to finish it it was too salty to eat. Otherwise great night and wonderful service.
Quickly seated, Nice welcoming atmosphere. Service was quick, waitress very attentive , although she forgot my salad and only asked my husband if he would like coffee. The food was pretty good.
Had a great meal at Buckeye Tavern! The food was delicious — especially the steak and the crispy fries. The cozy rustic atmosphere with wooden beams and stone walls made the whole dining experience even better. Friendly vibes all around.
I hadn't eaten here for many years (before the fire), and was very happy with my visit. The food was good, the service was good and it was nice inside. Very flavorful food with a good bit of choices on the menu. There's a nice large bar if you're into that. Interesting sports memorabilia sales section in the entrance way. Historic building that was nicely redone after having been consumed in a fire years ago.
We met friends at this gem of a restaurant on our way to the airport. Many thanks to Buffy who took awesome care of us. The atmosphere is very charming and cozy. The food and drinks were incredible! If you're in the area, please stop by for an awesome experience! We're just sorry we live in Arizona and can't be regulars at the bar!
I've been wanting to try Buckeye Tavern for several years when I'd drive by and being open on a Monday night was great since my husband wanted to go out for dinner. My friends recommend Buckeye too since they used to be connected to Alburtis Tavern. We requested a booth and were told they don't seat 2 people at a booth. I understand that if you're busy or expecting to be but it was quiet that night and not super busy. Booths sat empty from the time we came in to our exit. The food was delicious. A lady going in told me she comes for the drinks - that's her recommendation. The waitress couldn't give any recommendations. She said the menu has so many good things. I carry my water bottle with me everywhere and didn't think about it when I walked in with it. The host who seated us didn't say anything about no outside drinks allowed. It makes sense since it's a bar. But the waitress shouldn't have to tell me that, he should. She said there's a sign at the door but I never saw it even looking for it later. My husband was disappointed that they only serve Coke products. He ordered the whiskey glazed chicken and had a salad with it and Buffy, our waitress, couldn't tell us any of the dressings, she showed us they were listed on the menu. If he couldn't see well that would be no help. He loved the whiskey glaze. She always kept busy and was attentive to all her guests. She couldn't tell me what desserts they have because there were too many (8). She brought me a dessert menu. I ordered the margarita flatbread and a house salad which I'm very thankful I mentioned I can't have iceberg lettuce as that's the way it's prepared. She decided they could make it with spring mix. The flatbread was amazing. I ate all of it. If I ever get my husband here again I'll definitely order the salmon on salad. That's my usual order trying new restaurants.
Though the tavern was full, we were seated right away and our waitress was fast, friendly and helpful. We both enjoyed our salads and the cozy yet buzzing atmosphere.
Stopped in for lunch. Selected the salmon salad and the bartender suggested I change up the dressings. The suggestion was amazing. Pretty good bet selection. Fun helpful and knowledgeable staff. Okay looks like it does an amazing business so even though they have a good sized parking lot I bet it is packed at peak times.
